Testimony from AGM 2010~Heartfelt Words from HuiJun

Our most recent AGM was an invigorating experience. It helped me reaffirm my identity as a professional financial adviser and gave me new insights into my role in my clients' lives.

The focus of the AGM was mainly on client- servicing. Boss talked about how we fared through the crisis of the past year or so. This helped me contextualise and appreciate so much more how critical my responsibility as a long-term adviser to my clients is.

For example, Boss shared that 2007 was a year of persecution for us. Everything was rising then. But we advised our clients not to invest in certain funds that were being raved about. Going against the euphoria, a number of our clients were understandably unhappy about a perceived missed opportunity to jump onto the bandwagon. But Boss knew what was going to come next and so we set aside an opportunity fund to prepare for the next wave.

2008 turned out to be a year of aerodynamics because we went heavily into China and we spearheaded the entire movement in China. Almost every other financial firm was anxious and uncertain about this move. But JNP saw only opportunities. We just kept going forward and insisting that our clients invest in China. That was the first major investment call that we made. Needless to say, it paid off.

What I've learnt from Boss is the spirit of authentic financial advisory. He doesn't follow the herd. When he makes a decision or a call, he is committed to it. He isn't swayed by the market's euphoria. In 2007, when the financial sector was excited about the market, they just got their clients to invest without thinking, when in fact; the results came from China only in 2009.

Through these examples Boss shared, I began to more deeply appreciate the heavy responsibility a financial adviser bears. These are responsibilities that can be lived out only through an authentic long-term relationship, which is what we have promised to our clients and intend to fulfil.

From our JNP Investment Committee perspective, 2010 will be a year of discipline and following through. It is our desire and duty to help our clients to become rich. I am confident in being able to do this because JNP has a good track record. And I look forward to this track record for the benefit of my clients who have placed their trust and confidence in me!
